How long might the outbreak last for?

Hi there,
I had a primary outbreak about 10-14 days ago, small blisters on the end of the penis, and now have swelling of the glands and penis and flu like symptoms - am on my 2nd course of aciclovir. The herpes this was bought on by sex with a new partner, though I think I contracted it about 18 months ago but nothing happened then. Could this be likely? We think it is unlikely that my new partner is infected - although maybe I have just passed it on to her? My question concerns swelling - which is at it's height today - probably 12 days into the period. How long will it be till the swelling dies down - I imagine the drugs are only treating the blisters which cleared up a few days ago. Thanks!

Are you applying anything topical to your penis during all of this?

I agree with daisy, call your provider today and ask to be seen today because of the swelling. This is not typical of herpes and needs further evaluation.

Thanks Daisy! Yes, it's a swelling of the penis - but I thought this might all be part of the swelling of the lymph glands - but the blisters have all cleared up now and I'm left with this swollen penis! :( So I'll check out the doctor again. Also feels like I'vre got a mild flu. Tiredness and headachy, and I thought these were Herpes symptoms...

Swelling is not typical of Herpes I think you need to see your Doctor about this, nor should an outbreak last that long when taking an anti-viral such as Aciclovir you may have a Bacterial Infection going on there at the same time as your HSV outbreak therefore neither are clearing as quickly as they should be ...... I advise you to go back to your Doctor about the swelling,an anti-biotic may be required to clear up any infection,I suggest your current partner is tested for HSV and Bacterial Infection also.
