Exposure detection

A lil bit of of backround about me.
I was under the age of 5 years old when i started getting cold sores.  In the 60's, I never new wat was the cause.
Had that every fall , and i remember because it was always in time for school pictures.

As a teen ,   I found that too much Sun exposure would make me have  the Herpes 1 outbreak.

Mid twenties,  started being sexually active  and had developed a blisterlike rash on my tailbone. Would become painful , so i would just use alchohol to soothe it and dry it up fast.    This would go on for at least 10-15years,  but i would start to notice that this eruption would occur every 6-8mo's.  My own self -diagnosis to me was Herpes

To date,    I felt like i was going to have another outbreak and it was just starting .   So i decided to have the doctor do bloodwork.   One week later, the  doc tells me that i have Herpes II and that i was just exposed to it.
I am confused?    I am not undertanding the just being exposed part?
Given you some of my backround,  can u understand my confusion?    Maybe u can give me some clearer answers.   Thanks

According to the blood test results you pm'd me - you are hsv1 and hsv2 + both.  I'd go with your own assessment of you've had hsv2 since when you first started having the tailbone rashes. There is no such thing as being exposed - your provider needs to stop telling folks that and hit the books to learn more about herpes testing.

I think your provider did the igm blood test.  If you can call monday and ask them to read your test results to you and write them down to post here, I can better help you.  All I need to see if hsv1 igg 6. 8 and hsv2 igg 4. 9 or whatever they are.
