According to a recent study by the highly-credentialed researchers at the University of Washington, published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), HSV-2 is shed overall about 10% of the time. That's more than 36 days out of the year. In addition, we are contagious even without symptoms - a phenomenon called "asymptomatic shedding."
However, your symptoms could be due to a number of other things besides herpes. There's really no way to tell without a lesion to swab.
You could take a blood test now, but it could come back negative if antibodies have not generated in your system enough to trigger a positive result. You'll want to wait about 4 months to re-test with a reliable blood test, either an IgG (good, especially if it's something other than the ELISA, which has had issues in recent years) or the Western Blot (best).
Try not to stress until then. Have your doctor look at your symptoms to rule out other causes.
Hi, if she did not have an obvious vaginal sore present, the odds that you were exposed to herpes is very low as shedding doesnot occur that often. Just keep an eye out for any sores that develop in the area where she rubbed.
