failure to communicate positive HSV test results

I found small red and white clustered bumpy lesions near my perineum back in 2011 so I went to my OBGYN and she suggested a biopsy. She cut off some of the lesions and stitched me up, ouch! She gave me a RX and said "do not fill this RX until you hear back form me with the results." I never heard back and the clinic took forever to answer the phone. So a few weeks later, while at my primary care doctor discussing an unrelated condition, I mentioned the lesions and she wanted to look. She said "why the biopsy? if it looks like genital warts lets treat it as genital warts!" so she gave me a lotion RX and it cleared up. In 2012 I was due for a pap smear so I went back to the OBGYN office and saw a different provider who took a pap smear and ordered blood work. I asked her about the biopsy I never heard about and she said "it was inconclusive." I soon received a letter that said "your pap smear is normal" and nothing more. I assumed the lesions were probably related to a less serious strain of HPV that I hadn't been tested for. So now in 2017 I want to establish care closer to home for an overdue pap smear and I requested all my records from the previous OBGYN. Whoa, a test result from 2012 says "HSV 1 and 2 is positive" and the records don't include anything regarding the biopsy. If I had known this result then I'd have immediately been tested to see if it is HSV 1 or 2 or both, I'd have informed my then-fiance (who is now my spouse with periodic similar lesions), and I'd have tried to prevent the spread. So my questions are: what do you think about this care? (Is it seriously bad and irresponsible or is it just me?) Also, would you get further tests and discuss treatment options with an MD? I am planning to and would like to hear any recommendations for what type of specialist should I see and what to ask them.

When you retest let us know. Hsv testing and results can be tricky if positive. Positive doesn't always hold true. Low false positives with hsv testing is somewhat common place.

I agree. The care should've been much better. I would get an igg hsv1 and hsv2 test. Absolutely no igm. If they offer or suggest it, decline as they are not up to date on testing.
That will help sort this out.
