Hsv2

I got diagnosed almost a month ago with hsv2 I was so emotional and felt so gross. Since then I’ve come to terms with it. I was prescribed valtrex to take daily. The past two weeks I stopped taken it. Today I woke up and had an outbreak. My question is how often do you get outbreaks after the first initial one?? And what do I do to make them stop and go away!

The frequency in which people get outbreaks varies tremendously. Some people get one a year, others get several a year. You'll only know over time what you'll get.

To treat this outbreak, take valtrex 500 mg twice a day for 3 days.

The thing about herpes is that it recurs. Nothing can make that stop 100%. Suppression can help (valtrex or acyclovir daily), but you may still get an outbreak from time to time, especially if you get sick, stressed, really tired, etc.

No one wants outbreaks, obviously, but you'll deal with it a lot better if you can take the emotion out of it. It's not "gross" - it's a virus that you got, and it does it's viral thing. Would you feel this way if you had recurrent allergies? If you got strep throat from kissing someone? A cold? Probably not. I know it's really new for you, and accepting it is a process, but you'll get there.

Also, if you end up getting frequent outbreaks, make sure you don't have a secondary infection, like yeast or bacterial vaginitis, or another STD. Other infections can trigger outbreaks, too.

Feel better!
