Yeah not so happy about the Hsv 1 but I'm glad that I don't have genital herpes. That would be alot harder to explain to future partners

Hey I just got my new results today.

HSV 1 = 1.79
HSV 2 = 0.11

so I guess I'm neggative for HSV 2 and positive for  HSV 1

The problem with the test is its not specific so it doesn't give you the information you need.  Its hard for us to say that it isn't picking up something else (depends on what the test looks for) to know if you have it or not.  For example an IgM test can cross react with other antibodies that are for other virial responses.

Sure a chance you could not have it if its a false positive but the test is useless.  If you are at the Navy Station in Japan are you a Civ Contractor or Navy Personnel?  If you are Navy Personnel you can request from them a Type Specific igg test.  They will know how to process that.  Not sure as a Civ if you can get them to do it.

Hey grace I have one more question. When you said "a 28 is just a + score on the test. You can't tell if it's just hsv1 causing it, hsv2, both or something else causing a false positive." what can be something else causing it?. And does that mean there is a small chance that I don't have hsv 1 or 2

usually inside the mouth it's canker sores, not herpes.  that said, you can have hsv1 orally and also get canker sores too - you can have more than 1 thing going on in your mouth.  make sense?

when you are home the next time, find a place to get a better test done just for the peace of mind. If you are like most folks, odds are you won't let go of this until you do have more accurate answers ( which is a good thing for you and your current/future partners ).

I got tested because I'm 23 and I never had a STD test before. I've been sexualy active since I was 17. And a few times I had unprotected sex. And i thought it was about time to check my self.
sometimes when I eat I get a small blister in my mouth u think that's HSV 1?

a 28 is just a + score on the test. You can't tell if it's just hsv1 causing it, hsv2, both or something else causing a false positive. we never recommend the use of this test in general.

most adults have hsv1 orally whether they can recall obvious cold sores or not. having hsv1, makes you test + automatically on the combined test too. It also has a relatively high false positive rate too.

what led you to get tested in the first place?

Thank you for your reply

I'm in the Navy station in japan and this is the only kind of test they have on base. I don't know what to do and I'm still trying to get over the shock that I have herpes.

Is 28.0 H a bad score ?

you had a non-type specific herpes test done which was a total waste of time and money. You need to repeat it with a type specific herpes igg blood test that differentiates between hsv1 and hsv2.
