I got positive results with no symptoms.

I went to get tested about a week ago, and got my results yesterday, My results were HSV-1 5.0 and HSV-2 1.4. i didn't have any symptoms such as a rash, blisters or itchiness around my penis or mouth. The doctor prescribed me Levofloxacin  500mg tablet 1 time a day for 10 days a week ago when I first saw him just in case i have an infection he said. I already knew that i have HSV-1 since I remember my self (prob 11,12 years old), I am assuming from my mom because she has it too. The Doctor prescribed me Valtrex 500 2 times a day after getting the results yesterday. My questions are;
1. How could the doctor know if i have herpes in my genital area?
2. why am i taking Valtrex if i have no symptoms?
3. how does this affect me in the future?
4. can i have kids?
5. should i get retested?
6. will valtrex lower my HSV-2 test score?

The doctor says it should go away in a couple weeks and i should get tested again a month from now, but as you can see i still have alot of quiestions that he couldnt rly answer.

Please help me, I am kinda freaking out and would love to get more insight on this, PLEASE!!!!!

Thank you

BTW
I am 24 years old, and have been safe! and can not recall unprotected sex, but i did have unprotected oral sex!

you already know your hsv1 is oral from your history of cold sores.

you need to get a herpes WB blood test to confirm your hsv2 status

i had a regular partner about 2 months ago and haven't had sexual interaction besides kissing since we broke up.
what does a false positive really mean?

your provider doesn't seem to know a lot about herpes unfortunately :(

your hsv2 igg is a low positive and very well could be a false positive. you will need additional confirmatory testing to know if you are indeed infected or not. since you aren't having any symptoms, no reason to take any valtrex at this time.

you didn't contract hsv2 from unprotected oral sex. very few folks have hsv2 orally for starters and those who do, don't shed the virus very often to transmit it to others.

do you have a regular partner?

Yes taking valtrex might lower you test score but what good is that? You are taking the test to measure antibodies right? Lowering antibodies doesn't cure Herpes. OB=Outbreak! And 1.4 isn't necessarily positive, and no you don't generally get HSV2 via oral sex. Type 2 is usually G to G. It is possible you've had it for years, though it would be unusual to score so low, unless you've had it for very many years and it has lowered over the years. Hard to tell really.

Well there's no "safe" sex when it comes to HSV, condoms only add a small extra margin of prevention. HSV2 is genital to genital transmission, you could have got HVS1 genitally from someone with a cold sore but not type 2. and your doctor said you have genital herpes because HVS2 is genital, regardless of OB's or not. If you have never had an OB then there's no reason for you to take valtrex, it's just going to mess with your numbers on you next test, so save it. The only reason you may want to take it later is to reduce shedding. Your number is certainly not an absolute positive, expecially since you've never had symptoms, so get retested in a few months. Of course you can have kids, HSV is just a skin virus, no more.
