Is HSV 2 IgM test accurate after 12 days from exposure? Is it too soon to test?

Hi, we only use igG not igM and 8 weeks would be a good indicator but 3  months would be conclusive.

For a recent exposure nothing would come up at 9 days most often. 8 week would be a better indicator. It really appears as a false positive. equivocal means positive till retesting confirming. But as mentioned having a 1.09 at 9 days really leans toward a false positive.

Seems here on day 12 I've had all early symtoms I have read about, no blistering yet, just notice a few rash type areas, not sure if it's related.

Seems I'm still in incubation period?

Thanks

Had protected vaginal intercourse, she gave me unprotected oral and then kissed me. Can she transfer type 2 to my mouth by kissing?

Your risk is very low for HSV.

She cannot transfer HSV2 by kissing.  I mean, it's possible in the same way that hitting the powerball is possible...which is my way of saying it didn't happen.

Take the IgG type specific tests at 12 and 16 weeks for accurate results.

She tested positive for 1 & 2, could she have 2 in her mouth already?
Just received this news?

Can a person have 1& 2 in the mouth?

Thanks for answers I'm going crazy thinking about this.

If she has HSV2, there's a 99.9% chance that she has it on her genitals.

Your risk is a little higher with this new knowledge.  Get tested at the appropriate times and not sooner. The waiting sucks, but we've all been there before.  You'll make it.

Obviously, if you DO experience anything that you think may be an outbreak, get seen same-day and get the area cultured.

And she probably has type1 orally and type 2 genitally.  Very common.

Thanks, I feel terrible, been 13 days since exposure, had many early symptoms, a few rashes and pimples that popped up on back, but no blisters yet. Not sure how folks deal with this? It's driving me crazy, can't get it off my mind. I'd did see another doc yesterday, he saw no visible areas of concern. My glands are swollen in groin area and have terrible sore throat.

Have the next rash cultured by a doc.  You have to do it within 24 hours for best results.

And DO NOT take any Valtrex, if you can help it.  The antivirals slow your bodies response and cause more false positive tests with early infections.

Too late on valtrex, taking 3 times a day for last 4 days. Could this be why no blisters have appeared?

It could.  No question.

And you need to stop taking it as soon as you can.  Its only gonna delay you finding out the truth.  Antivirals have been proven to stunt the development of IgG antibodies...

Thanks, I will lay off the Valtrex, didn't know what to do, just following doctors orders.

Thanks for continuing to respond, I'm not handling this very well, not one to talk with about what's going on, and you're right, long painful wait.

"I've had all early symtoms I have read about, no blistering yet":  Visible sores and "blistering" are the earliest symptoms.  Others typically don't start until visible sores have been present a few days.  There are exceptions, but uncommon.

See this thread from yesterday for some comments about IgM testing: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Herpes/Clarification-of-HSV-test-results-with-a-known-HSV-I-infection/show/2239500

All things considered, try to relax. From what you have said so far, it appears unlikely you caught HSV.

Lips are swollen since yesterday, inside of mouth is irritated and red.

I'm losing it, been 14 days since exposure. No blisters on body or lips, have sore throat, with a few blisters back of throat.

What should I do?

Lips remain swollen, inside of mouth is red, irritated and raw looking.

Stopped Doxycycline yesterday, mo improvement since.

There are no white areas in mouth, could it be yeast infection as mentioned in earlier thread?

Visit Urgent Care yesterday, doc wasn't sure, didn't mention yeast infection, only reaction to something I ate. Received steroid shot, which doc said should reduce swelling, it has done nothing.

There is no white spotting in mouth or on lips, could sit still be yeast infection as one mentioned in earlier thread, due to two weeks of Doxycycline?

Thanks for response.

Was felling a little better on day 15 after exposure, stopped taking Valtrex, now starting day 18 not feeling as good, no noticeable rash and no blistering.

Energy level dropped, very fatigue, can't sleep, no appetite, slight sensation in penis, uretha seems hard. Glands swollen in groin area! Very tender.

Had the same symptoms before taking Valrex, seemed to all go away while on the medication. Is this telling me I have some virus in my system that the Valtrex knocked down?

Started medication for thrush, hope this clears up too.

nothing you have posted about sounds like oral herpes going on. sounds like you have caught some other viral illness which is quite common even during the summer months.

since you took valtrex, you should wait the full 3 months before retesting with a herpes igg blood test if you need the peace of mind. The risk of contracting herpes from a one time encounter is very low.  Since you were totally hsv negative prior to the encounter, odds are that you would've had a very obvious and "classic" presentation of symptoms of which you have not.

do not restart the valtrex unless you get obvious blisters that you first get cultured!!!
