"Inconclusive Results"

I recently went to the doctor about a month ago for my yearly woman's exam. I asked to be fully tested for all STD's like I normally do once per year. I recieved my results today and the doctor informed me that I tested positive for HSV but they could not determine whether it was 1 or 2. I had a sinus infection the week prior to my exam and had been on antibiotics 4 days prior to my exam. They told me they wanted me to come back in 6 weeks for retesting. I asked them to explain in detail and they said that I tested positive for IgM @ 1.2 and negative for IgG. I'm very concerned about this because I have never had a cold sore or any other type of lesion in/around my genital area. I am very aware of my body and regularly check to make sure everything is "Okay". Could anybody please give me some insight? I am terrified as to what this could possibly mean and what I'm supposed to tell my significant other.

Grace please help. i got tested a week ago for hsv 1 and hsv 2 igg and igm. everything came back negative except for hsv 2 igg which came back inconclusive with a 1.00. what does this mean? i have been checked several times in the past for hsv 1 and 2 igg and igm, and it always came back positive. I have been  in a monogamous relationship for 2 years, how could this be? what could have caused my inconclusive result? i was in antibiotics when i took the test, i was being treated for  enterococcus faecalis and i have tested positive for citomegalovirus in the past (could this affect the test?) if everything else came back negative, does this mean it could be a new infection?? please help i am panicking!

the igm herpes test is a very flawed test and we don't recommend its use.  http://www.medhelp.org/posts/STDs/Confusiion-over-other-IgM-Herpes-posts/show/248394  is a prior post by HHH that goes into the details nicely for more reading.

you getting tested yearly is only half the picture. is your partner also getting tested and are they getting herpes testing done too?
