This is complete paranoia, I think. Herpes is transmitted by skin to skin contact! You can't "plant" the herpes virus for goodness sake.
1 in every 2-3 people you kiss has oral herpes, and no doubt you got it from one of them (including possibly your Granny or Auntie from when you were a child!).
Move on from such thinking as someone "planting" herpes in your apartment. If not, seek a mental health professional in dealing with such thoughts.
I was going to say the same thing as Jonsie. Herpes will not survive on a foreign object in the open air for whatever time it was you were away. It wouldn't even survive for minutes much less hours or even days. If you got Herpes, you got it from somewhere else.
I highly doubt your landlord did it. The virus doesn't survive very long outside of the body. Even if he did "put" something on your towel or whatever, the virus would likely be dead by the time you're there.
Hi, edp193. I agree with the police that you need evidence that your landlord infected you with herpes. First, did you know that nationwide, 45 million people ages 12 and older, or one out of five of the total adolescent and adult population, are infected with genital herpes (herpes simplex virus-2 or HSV-2). Many people have it and do not know it because they are not tested for it. Sometimes, it lays quietly in a stage that is referred to as "dormant" or "latent." At times, the virus can become active and start replicating again and travel down the nerve to the skin, causing sores and blisters. Infections caused by HSV are contagious. The virus is spread from person to person by kissing, by close contact with herpetic lesions, or even from contact with apparently normal skin that is shedding the virus. Infected saliva is a common means of virus transmission. However, a person infected with HSV can pass it on to another person regardless of the presence or absence of symptoms and visible sores or blisters. This is because the virus is sometimes shed in saliva even when sores are not present. It is almost impossible to catch herpes (cold sores) from surfaces, towels, or washcloths. So if you are currently sexually active or have kissed someone in the past whom had herpes, you may or may not have known it because there does not have to be any visible signs of the disease. The only way to know is to get tested. Hope you get well, but I think that the source of your herpes contraction is from someone else. Many people live normal lives with herpes. Do not stress yourself out about it because this can cause reoccurring outbreaks.
Goodluck.
