Is it herpes or not

I have been experiencing back to back breakouts in my gluteal cleft region ( on the inner buttock but not touching the actual "crack" part for the past month. It happened suddenly. The breakout look like small cuts or sores in the skin. It doesn't cause any pain or discomfort. Just the occasional itch but for the most part I forget that it's even there until something rubs up against it such as my panties or bath towel/tissue. I have been diagnosed with herpes 4 yrs ago and had only 1 breakout in those 4 years and it was in the perivaginal area-a totally different area and the symptoms I experience with that occurrence was a bit different. At this time  When one spot heals another pops up within the next day or very few days after. Is this herpes or possible something else?

most likely it's a yeast/fungal issue but many other bacteria that can also cause these symptoms.

For now, I'd just cleanse the area with plain soap ( like white unscented dove ) once daily in the shower and just sprinkle either a corn starch based body powder ( unscented ) or corn starch out of the kitchen on the area to help reduce friction and absorb moisture.  Probably wouldn't hurt at all to use a powder antifungal instead if you want.

Thanks for your response. I do have an appointment to see my doctor this week. I understand that you can provide limited info as you cannot diagnose or  see my breakout but if it doesn't sound like herpes what other possibilities could be considered?

sounds like something not related to your genital herpes infection.  I'd go and be seen and get this looked at.
