Is my result reliable?

Hi. I tested negative (igm and igg) for hsv 2 7-8 months after my last possible exposure. However ive been taking valtrex daily for the last 7-8 months for hsv 1. Just wondering if the negative result is reliable in this case.

Hi thanks for that. Does it completely halt or just delay the production of antibodies? This test was over a year ago and i have not had any symptoms whatsoever. But thats probably not surprising since i'm on valtrex.

I should have mentioned that if i did get type 2 it would have been around the same time as i got type 1, and started on the valtrex 1-2 months after that. Type i showed up positive in the test.

Do you think i should retest to be sure or can i assumee that because type 1 came up on the test that type 2 would have as well given the above. Thanks

some studies suggest that taking valtrex right from start (right after infection) might halt antibody production, causing false-negative results. but no reason to think that unless you had genital symptoms. no reason to doubt the results.
