I’ve had an open sore for two years is that normal

I’m still so confused.  I have only slept with my husband and he only slept with one girl when they were both virgins and 16.  We have been married now for 15 years.  A year ago I was diagnosed with herpes.  I have an open sore in my anus . It started after the birth of my 4th child.  Very soon after I had sever itching that started in my vagina and over the course of 6months to a year moved and settled in my anus.  It has itched for 7.5 years.  I told several ob’s As we moved a lot and it was always nothing until they tested me for herpes and it was positive.  With all that said, I have had one open sore that itches and bleeds all the time even on anti viral medicine .  From everything I’ve read it should lessen with medicine and sloth off - this thing is going nowhere not healing or closing and just the left side of my anus itches always.  Is it possible it’s not herpies? I can only assume if it truly is I got it while giving birth to my 4th child at the hospital. But why does it never stop itching or get better if it really is herpies.

There are several kinds of skin conditions that could cause an open sore and itching.  Also, if it's near your anus, you may be aggravating things each time you have a bowel movement and wipe yourself.  I have a friend who needed a temporary colostomy because the feces kept aggravating an open sore and it was constantly infected (probably much more severe than what you're experiencing).   I've suffered from eczema for years and while I never had it near my anus, everything else fits exactly.  This is a long shot, but you might want to talk to a dermatologist.  The fact that you have herpes may just be a coincidence.

Hi -

A herpes sore would not remain open and unhealed like this for this long. A herpes sore usually heals within 2-10 days.

If your husband has hsv1, he could have given you genital herpes by preforming oral sex on you. He could have hsv1 and never had a cold sore. If this is the case, you'd have genital herpes type 1.

However, that doesn't mean that this is herpes. It sounds like you need to have your doctor take another look.

Do you have the results from the test they did? It sounds like they did a culture, but did they do a type specific culture?

So in all, I can't say if you have herpes without knowing more about your test, and even if you do, it really doesn't sound like your symptoms are being caused by herpes, or at least not herpes alone.
