Just how easy is it to get herpes?

I had lunch with an old boyfriend from high school.  He had a sore on his mouth, below his lip in the corner that was healing.  He said he had an infected hair and that he had seen a doctor.  I tasted his drink, so I drank after him.  When we parted he gave me a "peck" on the lips.  Now I have heard from others that he has herpes.  I am on Rebif, an immune modifying drug.  What are my risks?

Uhg..........I was so nervous seeing him after 25 years I wasn't thinking.  It was my understanding that if I did have a herpes sore develop it would be at the sight of contact.  Or does it not matter?  I had a cold sore about 2 years ago and I had my doctor run a blood test which showed me neg for both HSV1 & 2.  There shold be a time period that you have to wait after exposure before the test can give correct results but I am not finding it in my diagnosics manual.  I think I hate him, lol I am so angry with myself.

Well, if he does have oral herpes, your chances are decent that you might get it.  If you notice anything, let your doctor see it and culture it within 24-48 hours of its appearance.  If he suspects its herpes, ask about medication right away, as long as it doesn't interfere with your other medical problems.

Since you are on Rebif, you might want to take care to not drink after people, etc., because it still is cold and flu season.
