L-Lysine and Acyclovir

I have never had an outbreak before but recently I had a swollen lip, it was a little numby, then it tingled for a few days and it was annoying.. I am nearly certain it is HSV I, I have not been with anyone that has this and I was tested several years ago and was clean.

BUT this came on 3 days after a Party I was at, a guy there had a cut on his lip that was scabbed over, I thought nothing of it, he used a wine glass and was "done with it", I grabbed the glass and washed it out with warm water... then poured wine into the glass and drank it.

From all the research I did, this is HSV I.. now I am paranoid and think everything is going to explode on my face. I am using L-Lysine, Acyclovir and Abreva to prevent an outbreak (heard they hurt like  hell and are just nasty like that guy's-which I thought was the result of a bloody lip).

My questions are, I don't have an outbreak that is visible, no redness, and I am on day 6 of the occasional burning and tingling.  I am using all the above and I still get some burning and tingling...I've been taking 800mg of Acyclovir 2x daily for the past 3 days, using the abreva 5 x a day and taking 1500 to 2000mg of L-lysine a day.. I don't feel much tingling and think it is just my paranoya (sp?). Can the combination cause the tingling? I am getting tingling in my ear as well and my jaw.. and secondly, am I contagious or shedding as they say online in the various forms? There seems to be some things about how if I have been taking the Acyclovir for 3 days (6 doses) and no outbreak then I am not contagious and the tingling is probably just my imagination at this point. I just don't want to pass this to my g/f at all.

Can someone please put me at rest with my concerns with information?

Thank-you for your help.. btw: in the mornings if I don't think about it I don't get any tingling anymore.. but when I think about it I start thinking it is tingling. I have never had any kind of an outbreak of anything like this anywhere on my body.

L-lysine is VERY effective, I've been using it for years.  You need more l-lysine with Vit C, like 3000-4000 mg every 3 or 4 hours on a full stomach. (If you're having an outbreak or about to have one) if you're just trying to suppress it take about 1000 mg per day. & then after a month or two, you can give your body a break for a few days or a week. Also you can't take it with milk or it's ineffective. Also, no coffee because it makes it easy for your body to absorb l-arginine. (Also no nuts) What I'm unsure of is about taking both acyclovir & l-lysine together. It might interfere with the acyclovir.

This thread popped up first in a search despite its age and I see a lot of old threads with new answers. This one is still helpful to anyone with new onset of HSV symptoms. This virus is dormant in many people since childhood - just like the chickenpox virus. Sooner or later, age and immune issues catch up and are cofactors in outbreaks. Given how common it is, it's pretty irrelevant worrying about how it was contracted. Just like the common cold, you'll never know. Preventing outbreaks is the important thing. Lysine and arginine are the two amino acids to research and understand in conjunction with controlling outbreaks of any virus from the large "family" of herpes viruses. Epstein Barr and Mono are among them.

It is unlikely anyone is looking at 3 year old threads. If you want a response on this forum, it would be best to start a new one.

at this point you've treated with antivirals so not much you can do.  Personally you've wasted a lot of money needlessly.  if your pain continues, see your provider for a proper work up.

Lysine in testing was not effecting in preventing HSV outbreaks.  You simply are not going to get the virus in the way in which you describe.  You cleaned the glass out with water which would have either killed or remove the virus.  The virus doesn't live long outside of the body.

You need to understand in which the virus is transmitted.  First off it is transmitted via skin-to-skin contact which needs heat and friction.  The virus isn't going to live long on a glass because there is no heatsource and wine isn't a hot drink anyway.  You had to have an entry point for the virus to enter and then infect the nerves.  Not easy as you may think.  You making out with the guy who had an active cold sore and that was healing could very well be a risk but even then a low risk activity.

Now with all that said.  You are thinking about the area and becoming over sensitive.  You are trying your self with things that won't help you.  Abreva didn't do much for cold sores either and barely got FDA approval to begin with.

In short form.  See your doctor for a proper work up.  I think you are wasting your time worrying about herpes.  If you have herpes it wasn't from this encounter.
