Hi,
Hopefully someone with knowledge on this subject can help me more.
On 10/10/12 I was tested for HSV 1&2. I had both an IgG and an IgM done (though the doctor did not tell me I had an IgM and I learned through my bill for the lab).
The IgG range for negative is less than .90
The IgG equivocal range is .90-1.1
The IgG positive range is greater than 1.1
On 10/10/12, my IgM result was negative. My IgG for HSV 2 was negative. My IgG for HSV 1 was equivocal at 1.05.
I retested on 12/04/12, for the same things, and my IgM was negative again, my IgG HSV-2 was negative again, and my IgG HSV-1 was equivocal again, this time at .94.
Since my result for HSV-1 was equivocal yet again, I retested once more on 02/6/13. (I didn't do IgM again because it's useless and I didn't want to pay for it again)
On 02/06/13, my IgG HSV-2 was negative, but my IgG HSV-1 had gone positive at 1.19.
I have never had any symptoms, no cold sores, no genital itchiness/rash. In my entire life, I've only kissed 5 people, and 2 were just quick kisses on the lips, no tongue. I've only had sexual relations with 3 people, oral sex 4 years ago, vaginal and oral sex 3 years ago, and I have had vaginal and oral sex in my current relationship (which is completely monogamous) for a year and a half. None of my partners have had any form of sore.
I live with a family member who gets cold sores, but I never drink or eat after them. (or kiss them for that matter)
Since I've never had a symptom, I don't know if my infection would be oral or genital. I've had some leg pain recently, but it could be unrelated.
My questions are the following:
Do my results indicate a recent infection?
Could my low positive be a false positive?
Should I retest with an IgG?
How accurate is the IgG?
Should I look into the Western Blot? (I don't have insurance, can someone tell me the cost?)
Could an oral herpes infection cause pain in the back of my leg? (Just out of curiosity, because I know genital herpes can, but my risk of genital infection is low)
Thank you for any help provided.
