Does having Hsv1 (cold sores) protect me from getting a new infection?

I received unprotected oral sex from a new bf March 28th. I am kind of annoyed because I did not want to because I don't know his hsv status but I was half asleep and he just went ahead. I remembered how anxious I am about getting genital herpes and pushed him off of me and I have been anxious about it ever since. I have zero symptoms and I have had HSV1 since I was 8 years old so I get cold sores but I'm worried I can still get genital herpes.  How many days would it take for a new herpes infection to show up genitally? Am I immune to a new infection since I already have the virus in my body? He tried to tell me he doesn't get cold sores but I know people can have it without knowing. Please Help. Thank you!!

Yes, it will protect you from getting it again in another location. Your body has antibodies to hsv1 so you shouldn't ever get genital hsv1. You could still get ghsv2, but you were not at risk for that from this event.

I hope this helps. :)
