Monistat??

I was diagnosed on 12/2 with HSV-2 at a level of 4.19.  It completely shocked me considering I have never had any symptoms of herpes.  Ever since my doctor gave me the diagnosis, I've been all paranoid about everything!  Even though I wasn't having an outbreak, my doctor prescribed me with the Valtrex taking 2 pills three times a day for seven days.  I did that.  For the last few days, I've been experiencing some itching only on the outer upper part of the vagina.  I called the nurse and she advised me to try Monistat and see if it gets better.  I've examined myself and don't see anything visible that could be signs of an outbreak.  Is it ok to try the Monistat or can this trigger an outbreak?  Any information would be greatly appreciated!

All my doctor told me was that since I haven't had an outbreak, I don't have to be taking the Valtrex daily.  She said to have it on hand and start taking it immediately noticing any symptoms of an outbreak.  The problem is...I've never had one so I don't know what to look out for.  So, I've been reading and researching as much as possible to be prepared for what could happen.

This sounds similar to my situation as I have never had any outbreaks or sypmtoms either, yet I was given the Zovirax and the valtrax pills. Do I take the pills daily despite this fact?
