False positive in need of another test.
Thank you so much life360!!!!!!
Specifically, my igM was negative and my igG positive (1.88) at 6-8 post.
Any thoughts?
Any imformation you have is greatly appreciated.
Thanks so much in advance!!!
As a rule of thumb, most long term infections have a number of 5 and above. This is not written in stone but maybe considered a guide line. A 1.88 taken 3 months post exposure would be more in the lines of a false positive. If taken at the 8 week mark could infer a recent infection.
Also the igM could be used as a measure but we dont use igM as a standard. The medical profession believes that the igM shows up first then goes away so a positive igM and a negative igG could mean a new infection about the 6 week mark but this is all theory.
If you took the test 3 months post exposure you can prettly much rest assured its a false positive if youve never had symptoms.
It can be or it might not be. It might be an early infection, only way to know is to test in another 4 weeks

The doctor said that the test indicated that the virus was not new to my system and had been laying dormat for some time. Does the igG accuratly indicated a timeframe of infection? She said it was atlease 60 days old, is this true?
Yes an type specific IgG at 12 weeks post last sexual encounter would confirm this. IgG type tests are the most accurate commercially available tests.
Thanks life 360.
Should I retest with another igG or some other test?
Hi, using terminolgy that you dont have an active infection is very mis leading. Either a person has herpes or they dont. Also was this a igG type spectific test and if yes and also states that any value above 1.2 is positive then your value of 1.88 would surely fall into the false positive range IF you tested at least 8 weeks post exposure and would lean more towards a false positive if you tested at the 3 months mark.
Low positives and no symptoms surely implies a false positive in need for retesting.
