Can you help me interpret my igg results?

I had my first ob back in November of 2011. They swabbed it and said it was type ghsv1 and I also had an igg done and it said I was neg for type 1 and positive at 2.10 for type 2.

So I waited 4 months and took another igg. I just got the results back and it said I was neg for type 1 at 0,15 and positive for type 2 at 1.21.

does this mean the swab was wrong? Why did my igg go down after four months for type 2? Does that make sense? Do I have type 2?

I had sex one week before the outbreak. Tested positive for type 2 within 3 weeks of having sex. Does this mean I had it for awhile or that I could have gotten it 3 weeks earlier from the girl I slept with? I was thinking I must have had it for awhile. All I have read states it take awhile to show up on a test.

Any insight would be appreciated interpreting all this information. I really want to know if I have type 2 and if so why the numbers went down after 4 months. Also if I had it for awhile or if that girl gave it to me.

if it was recent, his igg would not have been positive by now.
most probably he has had hsv1 for a long time and ended up transmitting it to her just now. no way to know. by his results, no reason to believe it's a recent infection for him.

I have a friend that just had an ob and it was swabbed pos for ghsv1 so she had her husband tested and he came back with a really high pos igg for h1.
They have been married a long time and she has never cheated. She think he might have. Does a high igg without ever having an ob tell u how long he has had it without ever having an ob? could it have been recent?

I think I only said that because you seemed to have needed the peace of mind to confirm your infection.

So you don't suggest I wait 4 more months take another wb? Just believe and accept I have h1 even though the igg has not confirmed it after the 16 weeks?

I did not know that a swab was more accurate. I was only second guessing it because of the two neg igg's for h1 and they maybe on the wb. You suggested I wait 4 months and get a wb so I did and it was not conclusive. I would have thought after waiting 4 months if I had h1 it would have showed up as a pos not inconclusive.

why are you doubting your + lesion culture for hsv1? that trumps any blood testing for herpes every time.

Ok, So I waited the 4 months and took the Western Blot....It came back neg for H2 and said Indeterminate for h1, That I had an atypical reaction that may or may not have been due to HSV. Said I need to wait 4 more months and take another wb to pair against this wb I just took to see if I have it.

This is getting really old. I have had a pos swab for h1, 2 neg igg's for h1 that also said I was pos for h2 4 months apart and a wb that said I was neg for h2 and might have h1.

This is not fair. I guess I will believe the wb that I don't have h2 and may or may not have h1 and get tested again in 4 months. I just thought after 16 weeks it would either test pos or neg not a maybe.

Any insights? is it possible I don't have h1?

you had a lesion culture that was hsv1+. I was referring to false negatives on the igg blood tests.

Many people and doctors complain about herpes blood test for a high false positive and false negative. I think CDC will issue a new study to not recommend IGG blood test as they did before for igm.

Thank you.

Thanks Grace,

Should I wait to get the wb or do it now? It's been 4 months since my last sexual encounter or only ob.

You are not saying you don't think I have H right? you think I may have ghsv1?

it's most helpful when you just keep adding to your original post - thanks!

your swab could've been typed wrong but it's more likely that you are having false positive hsv2 results on the blood test and false negative hsv1 results. at this point seeking out a herpes WB blood test is the best way to confirm.

I had my first ob in Nov. One small blister on my shaft. It was pretty mild and I  took Valtrex and it went away. Nothing since.
