Positive HPV-2 Test

Background:  I've been with my current girlfriend for four years.  During that four years, I've never had any other sexual partner but her.  A few weeks ago she had a cold sore.  She's pretty good about being safe during that time.  No oral sex, no kissing.  Not until it goes away completely.  While she had the cold sore we did have sex.  This was during the weekend.  A day or two later I noticed some sores on my penis.  The sores never seeped and they were scabbed over by the time I noticed them (a day or so later).  The only other symptom I had was a tenderness in lymph node near my groin.  I did a little searching online and saw that it may be symptoms for genital herpes.  I had no other symptoms whatsoever.  While, looking online for information I noticed some folks mistaking friction abrasions for signs of genital herpes.  I them remembered that on the Thursday or Friday before the weekend of the suspected exposure we had been playing around and she had been a little rough with her hands.  Given the lack of symptoms and the sexual play I was sure that was what it was.  Regardless, I decided to get tested to be safe.  I was tested not even a week after the suspected exposure.  I didn't know that it was better to wait until after I had scheduled and paid for the test.  To add on:  the sores cleared up within two weeks.

I finally got the results back today (two weeks later) and genital herpes is positive.  I plan on going to my regular doctor and talking with him.  I don't know what the numbers were on the test.  I've requested them and hope to have them soon.

Maybe I'm in denial, but I'm still a little leery about the results.  The testing lab used  the HerpeSelect IgG antibody test, which from what I've read is pretty accurate.  Obviously, I should get tested again.  I'm just curious as to how concerned I should be.  My girlfriend is in a major funk over this because she feels it's her fault.  I really don't know what else we could've done to prevent it.  Anything I can tell her to cheer her up would be great.  Oh, and she is going to get tested herself.

Feedback, thoughts, concerns, whatever would be great.

I was tested previously about four and a half years ago; just before the current girlfriend and I began seeing each other.  Everything was negative then.  I have no clue what test they used then.  I was pretty uneducated about the whole thing at the time.

This time around they used the HerpeSelect IgG.  Is that what you were lookin for?

The current girlfriend is getting her test done later today.  Hopefully, we'll have results soon.

I'm still waiting on my actual numbers from my test.  I requested them a few days ago.  I also plan on going to see my doctor as soon as I can.

Thanks for your feedback.

have you ever been tested to know your own status?

what testing did you have done? blood testing?  If so, I will gladly take a look at your results once you get them. just post the actual numeric results - e.g. hsv1 igg 8.7 and hsv2 igg 3.2 or whatever they are.

cold sores are typically hsv1. If you are testing + for hsv2, it isn't related to your gf's hsv1 infection. they are 2 totally different infections.  she'll also need to seek out hsv2 igg blood testing to see what her own status is.
