Neonatal hsv

Question for moms/dads or any specialist doctors that want to weigh in
For those babies that have acquired neonatal hsv what did the pediatrician/infectious disease  tell you to expect in terms of future outbreaks, if they had disease localized to the CNS will they be able to transmit the virus via skin? Or only if there is an outbreak. There is literally not research on then prognosis or outlook. Also can babies get neonatal hsv and misdiagnosed with something like a brain bleed and survive without treatment? Thanks

Hi there - this is an unusual and somewhat vague question. Do you have herpes, and have you had a newborn diagnosed with herpes?
If so, what tests were done and what were the results?

I have never had an outbreak but have had  areas swabbed before via culture and pcr because I have am overly anxious about it. And my child was not diagnosed with herpes he had a brain bleed at birth and low grade fever doctors didn’t do an LP or any testing but since he did have a seizure it was on their list of differentials at first but when they saw the bleed they didn’t do any other testing.never diagnosed him with anything other than a bleed but I’ve always wondered if it could have been herpes. He wasn’t treated with anything other than antibiotics. I’ve always wondered for his future and I know there are no blood tests that you can get for babies are the more accurate way to test in adults is by a culture or pcr. Thanks
If you don't have herpes, you can't give a child herpes Being swabbed for herpes because you are anxious about herpes doesn't have any relationship with HAVING herpes.

Neonatal herpes is not a diagnosis that is missed, nor is a viral infection ever confused for a non-viral brain bleed. Neonatal herpes is a very serious infection that would not go unnoticed. Your child would have serious problems if they were born with undiagnosed herpes.
CurfewX is correct. Also, you've asked quite a few questions about herpes in the past. It's obviously a significant fear for you, to the point where it's beyond reason.

Have you ever talked to a therapist about this?

I'm sorry your child was so seriously ill with a brain bleed, but that's entirely different than any neuro issue resulting from neonatal HSV.

I hope your child is okay now.
