No Diagnosis

Hello- First of all thank you for this useful service.  I am trying to determine whether or not I have Genital HSV-1.  Toward the end of last summer I received unprotected oral from a girl(I am a male) with a history of cold sores.  I also had protected intercourse.  A couple of weeks later I had a general itchy burning sensation all over my genitals.  I went to the hospital and they did a swab for herpes and put me on valtrex.  I went to my GP that week and she noticed some red spots around the glans of my penis but said that she was almost certain it wasnt Herpes.  The swab came back negative for HSV.  I saw my GP and there was a little bit of scabbing where the red spots had been.  I saw my GP and she insisted that she was 99.9 % sure it wasnt herpes.  I waited a few of months and went to STD clinic and did the blood test.  The doctor at the clinic said it didnt sound like herpes.  The blood test came back positive for HSV 1 and negative for HSV 2.  The clinic doctor and my GP both seem to agree that I do not have herpes but I am still unsure how to proceed.  I do not want to subject someone else to what I have been through dealing with this but I am also not even sure if I have it or not.  If it is not herpes what else could it be?  Thank you in advance

well it doesn't really sound like genital herpes was going on -  more like jock itch than anything but hard to tell at this point. only way to know if your hsv1 is genital is if you get a recurrence of symptoms to have cultured.

Hi Grace, Thank you for getting back to me.  Unfortunately I have not been tested for herpes prior to these tests and I dont recall having a cold sore before...I have had dry scabs on the corners of my lips but it has not been painful or anything, just dryness from winter I think...
