Ocular Herpes

I was diagnosed with Ocular Herpes. Does this mean I will never be able to wear contacts again or have LASIX?

I had it in my R eye and have had no problems wearing contacts after the episode, it's just that some days my vision with contacts is not quite as good. I would really hesitate to do lasik though. Ocular herpes is something you don't want to irritate , i have read it can sometimes trigger other problems like encephalitis etc . I'm sure your eye specialist would tell you the risks.

i've had cold sores in the past but didn't have any outbreaks in the last year and then  had this eye irritation. ive been wearing my glasses since. i'm on two different types of drops and then on pills for a week. I just didn't know if that meant i couldn't wear contacts ever again! i go for a follow up in a few days.

you shouldn't be wearing your contacts when you have a recurrence of your herpes in your eye.  wear glasses until it's healed so you have less irritation.

usually occular herpes is oral herpes that has worked its way up the nerves in the face into the eye.  have you ever had cold sores?

did they prescribe you medication for your herpes?

You can continue to wear your contacts but they may cause a flare up and if they do then you should consider not wearing them.
I went to the lasik website: see the info below for the 2nd question.

If you have ocular herpes and are considering LASIK surgery, you must discuss your condition with your ophthalmologist. Ocular herpes does not always disqualify you for LASIK, but it does increase the risk of complications and possible blindness.

LASIK surgery may be interpreted by your body as trauma – one of the things that can cause ocular herpes to flare up. Certain immune responses to ocular herpes can increase the damage it causes to the cornea. Immuno-compromised patients are at the greatest risk. They are more likely to experience a flare up and if they do, it is more likely to be severe.

The benefits vs. risks should be evaluated on a case by case basis. If you and your ophthalmologist decide that LASIK surgery is still appropriate, precautions can be taken to minimize the risks.
