That said, I can save you $15. A pcr blood test is not worthwhile at all :( Pcr looks for actual herpes dna and since herpes isn't a blood borne virus in adults, it's not helpful for diagnosing a herpes infection. A type specific herpes igg blood test should've been ordered on you, not a pcr blood test. I'd give your provider a call today and ask them to change it if they really ordered a pcr blood test for you.

and to clarify...my dr did not see any signs of fungal infection, no bumps, no lesions, nothing that appeared to be jock itch, NOTHING. I had done research on my own and asked her if my itchy penis could be fungal because i am a athlete whom wears tight compression shorts while working out, running, riding my road bike etc.
it must be relatively new because thats the test i was given today. I have had NO other symptoms minus a itchy penis but my dr. thinks its fungal because i am a athlete who wears compression shorts and does not always shower right away. She tested me for all the other possible std's and those all came back negative. I asked if she could blood test me for herpes because i have read that fungal infections can be confused for herpes.
I would love to hear from a Dr.
and thank you petal 130 very much for your response
A PCR is a culture based of a skin swabbing - that is how I was diagnosed with HSV-1 genital herpes.
I have never heard of a PCR blood test.
