Partner Contracted HSV-Symptoms question

My partner has just shown signs of contracting HSV from me.  I have had HSV for the last 23 years. Even though we were did not have sex during an OB, and I am on Valtrex daily, it did happen.  So I hope that this brings attention to the fact that it is still transmittable.  My partner was aware of the risk involved and chose not to use condoms.

My question is related to this supposedly initial OB.  There are several small red "dots" on the tip of his penis. This is the third day and they do not seem to be getting worse.  Should they not turn into blisters? Second there are a few red "sore" areas on the shaft, but they have dry skin developing over them.  I thought an initial OB lasted 10-20 days.

Questions:
Could this OB already be healing?  Being the first, it was expected to be worse, or do you think it will get worse?

With me taking the suppressive therapy, could it affect the severity of my partners OB?

This really doesn't sound like it's herpes to be honest.  He should get a herpes lesion culture done though if it's been more than a few days the chances of it being negative are pretty high.  The only other option is to repeat his blood test in a few months.

The valtrex and transmission study published in the NEJM in 2004 showed that in  the partners who's hsv2+ partners were on suppressive therapy contracted hsv2, they were more likely to have asymptomatic infections.  I don't recall any info about the symptoms in folks who weren't asymptomatic being "milder" though.  There were so few couples who transmitted the virus in the study that it's hard to tell what "average" experiences would be. Hope that makes sense what I"m trying to say?

So in other words, the 2 of you are "diagnosing" him visually? That doesn't sound very smart.

Have him get the lesions looked at and cultured before jumping to the conclusion that it is related to herpes.

He was negative for the IgG blood test, one was done approx. 4-6 weeks ago. No lesion culture done. As of today they are only several red dots on the head of his penis and the small place with the dry skin around it just below.  I thought that I had read somewhere about the valtrex affecting effects of a primary outbreak of someone who's hsv positive partner is taking it.
Thanks for your quick reply.
