Pimple on shaft of penis

Hi Doctor,

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to provide. I am a 27  year old male who has not had sex without a condom in 7 years prior to my current girlfriend.  Before her I had not been sexually active for 2+ years.  We have been having sex without a condom now for a little over 2 months.  Before we started having sex I was tested for Syphilis, Chlamidya, and ghonnerrea, all of which came back negative.  I had never shown any signs of herpes so my doctor said that a herpes test was not necessary as I would have had an outbreak in at least 2 years, so I didn't get one.  She has been tested for everything and the results were all negative.  Ever since we've started having sex I've been "over-inspecting," if you will, my genital area due to nervousness that I may have "something."  Recently before bed I noticed a small red spot on the left side of the shaft of my penis, kind of on the underside.  In the morning I woke up to find a small whitehead like pimple had formed and the redness wasn't as visible.  It was raised so I applied a little pressure and it popped, with a little white puss coming out.  I also noticed one small pimple like bump on the inner thigh and popped it in the same manner with the same result.  I do work out with a lot of cardio, so I do sweat quite a bit in that area.

My questions to you are:
1- is it common to get a pimple/whitehead on the underside of the penis?
2- given the history I laid out, should I be concerned about genital herpes?
3- after it popped, it's a little red like any other pimple would be, am I freaking out over nothing?

Again, thank you for any help you may be able to provide!

Thank you for your advice!  I too thought it was strange for a doctor to tell me I shouldn't be tested the first time around, but I took his advice because he's the doctor.  I took your advice and was tested and everything came back negative.  I finally have some peace of mind.  Thanks again!

You might be freaking about nothing, yes.  I have seen just regular pimples on the shaft of the penis and certainly on the thighs.
I disagree with your doctor that if you had herpes, you would know it by an outbreak.
The only way to know for certain if you have herpes to get a type specific antibody test, IgG only.  It sounds like you've been tested for everything else, so that's the last one to get you the information that you need to be certain about what is going on.

I would like to add that I have had a little sensitivity in my inner thighs but that was only after reading what the symptoms of herpes is online and attribute this to paranoia.  I have not had any flu like symptoms, have had a slight decrease in appetite but I figure that is due to a diet i've been on for a few months and have been losing weight.  I have not had any painful blister with a clear liquid appear anywhere, only the pimple on the underside of the penis which looks like it has almost completely cleared with the exception of a little bit of redness but it is not raised at all.
