Possible False Positive?

I recently had a herpes IgG type blood test with the following results:

HSV 1 IgG, Type Spec = 5.59
HSV 2 IgG, Type Spec = 1.48

I have had cold sores for years, so the HSV1 was no surprise. My doctor told me I have been exposed to HSV2 and should use the barrier method to prevent spreading. I have never had any symptoms of genital herpes. What is the likelihood or possiblity of a false positive?

You are positive for HSV1 (as you already knew). Your HSV2 is a low positive and would need confirmatory testing with a Western Blot or Biokit.

What prompted you to be tested?

if you weren't naked, no reason for any testing no matter what was on your hand.

Well, you have two choices - your wife gets tested, and if she's negative you know you are negative as well. Or, you get the Western Blot of Biokit for confirmation.

Your wife is incorrect - you can't get genital herpes without sexual skin to skin contact. So if you are in fact positive, it came from her.

I decided to get tested because I went to a place where services were offered. Although I did not remove my clothes, I got an unknown substance on my hand. I confessed my issue with my wife and she wanted me to get a full range of std tests. I was surprised at this result as I have never had genital skin to skin contact with another individual besides my wife.
