Possible HSV2? Please advise.

Hello Dr. Thank you for answering my question.

I am suffering from extreme high levels of anxiety - but lets get to business.

I am uncircumsided.

Had unprotected Intercourse with none symptomatic female on 4/4/09

Felt 'irritation' in uretha shortly after. Persisted itching for one week.On 4/11 noticed small smega like globule on head of penis. Wiped away to reveal reddend skin. No bump/swlling. On 4/13 thick white discharge was noticed morning - had urine test same day at planned parenthood. Burning sensation usually after peeing, urine has small white clumps in it. Was prescribed a one-day-two-pill antibiotic (not sure what). Tests came back negative for Chl and Ghon.

Over week area became further irritated (probably due to my many physical inspections) skin look lighter underneath. No bumps or blisters occured. Throat infection occured during this time. No blisters in throat.

On 4/15/09 visited urologist had second round of tests including HSV testing. Doctor felt is was fungal + urethritis. Prescribed Fluconazole, Proseed and Flagyl 500mg 5 day dosage.

I also started taking airborne every morning, cut complex carbs from diet, included more garlic and after round of antibiotics was complete started eating yogurt daily.

Area began to subside and now penis seems mostly back-to-normal. Area mostly good color but slight burning remains in area at times. Still very very worried.

All test results from urologist visit came back negative. Apart from one of the two sets of two HSV2 blood tests which came back equivocal @ 1.0. The antibody test came back low negative.

Visited with urologist. Doctor believes chances of HSV-2 are very small. Still I'm worried, terrified might be a better description.

After speaking with partner she last had unprotected sex in December and is awaiting tests results also.

I have had no swelling in or around my groin area. Just the soreness/slight burning mostly in the area covered by foreskin and a weakness of the legs.

My previous comments stand.  I think you are likely noticing things on your penis that have been there before, but because you are so worried and anxious, you are noticing every little detail about your body.

This is the last post that I'll be making on this thread.  My best to you.

The partner should have her test results within a week or so i imagine. My next appointment is scheduled for after then. The weakness in the legs is starting to abade but my testicles are slightly achey at times and the head of penis continues with the small-red-1mm painless dot-like areas and some larger ish 3mm in diamter or so red-rashy areas - no perceived pain/sensitivity accompanies these. It also seems more wrinkly than usual (no wrinkles if i remember).

I am making an appointment to see a dermatologist as, while I agree this is unlikely to be herpes, all of this just doesn't happen of its own accord?

Given that - your impressions at this time, given this information, would be appreciated. I will await my test results before posting more. I thank you for your input.

I continue to believe that you don't have herpes.  I'm not clear that you need to go back to anyone at this point - how about if you wait until your partner's HSV results come back?  Not clear what you might have had, if anything, but now that you have taken antibiotics, I really don't think you have anything.

Thank you. To clarify the IGg tests came back negative the IGm HSV-2 test came back @ 1.0 - I've since read on how useless these tests are and am disregarding it. All my previous tests (urethral swab, blood and urine all came back negative for chl, ghon, fungal). Very concerning.

My symptoms at present. My urethra still feels a slight burning sensation after urination at times. Sometimes at night too. The soles of my feet also feel this at times. I still have the severe leg tiredness, although I have thought this may be due to not exercising for weeks since this all began, my anxeity or diabetes? I am not so sure. My legs can feel quite sore-ish at times but there is still no swelling in my lymph nodes. My penis looks relatively normal, apart from the 'ridge' of the head which seem still slightly more purplish than it did. When erect there are sometimes very small dots under the skins. They have no texture/sensitivity. I believe to be 'normal'. I also feel some continued 'uncomfortiblity' in the area that was previously affected from time to time. Everything, on the whole, does seem 'on the mend' though.

I spoke with the partner. For some, frustrating to me, reason she did not test for HSV! Only a pap DNA test for ghon/chl (argh!). I requested she get an IGg blood test for HSV 1 and 2 today and she agreed - but the pap test took over 2 weeks to get the results. Very frustrating. I agree her results will be a big clue. I am dumbfounded at her lack of curiosity and care to get full testing done first time round!

I've read the chances of getting HSV-2 from a brief asymptomatic encounter are slim (one in some thousands) is this true?

Do you continue to believe it is unlikely I have herpes?

Should I go back to my urologist with these symptoms? I am scheduled for another round of testing mid-may.

What do you think I could have?

I would agree with your doctor that this sounds fungal, and the evidence is that you are better.  I'm confused because you said you had an equivocal result on the HSV 2, but your antibody tests are negative.  Equivocal is a result on an antibody test, can you clarify?

My advice would be to wait and see what the result of your partner's testing is before you do much more here.  If she is your only recent partner, and her tests are negative, then you can stop worrying completely, right?

Leg weakness is not a sign of herpes, either.
