Possible that I transmitted herpes to my finger?

I have HSV2, and when I went to use the restroom and wiped myself I accidentally touched my vagina with my index finger. I don't necessarily have a painful cut or a broken cuticle but i have that piece of skin you pick at and rip to the point it hurts and stings whenever any liquid touches it, on the side of my nail. But it is pretty much pain free now and I think its healed, but theres a piece of loose skin still, maybe due to dryness, i don't know. I don't currently have an outbreak, but Im scared that I may be virally shedding and transmitted herpes to my finger. I did wash my hands with hot water and soap and I washed maybe 2-3 times, but like 10-15 seconds later... I know I sound crazy, but my anxiety is through the roof.

Transmission of herpes to a new body site is called auto-inoculation. It's quite rare, and the finger is one site that can pick up the infection, resulting in a painful lesion called herpetic whitlow. However, auto-inoculation occurs almost entirely in the first few weeks after someone catches HSV, either genital or oral. After a few weeks, the immune system prevents new infections of new body sites. In other words, if you acquired your genital HSV2 infection recently, this might be a risk. But not if you've had it longer than that.

I hope this has helped. Best wishes.
