Question about Herpes

Let me give you some background had a 8 panel test in July all came negative but the herpes panel came back positive.  I did not get retested to see if it was hsv 1 or 2.  In college 15 years ago,I had some cold sores on my lip and also I had sores on my penis several times and they went away after a few breakouts.  I got the swab test from the doctor he said it was not herpes, maybe a allergic reaction.  I was always suspect.  I have prostatitis and was on on antibiotics for 3 months I am better now and my body is fighting of a slight oral thrush.  I had sex with sex worker in a major city in the mid west about 20 days ago.. Very careful used a condom did not have contact with her to much.  Four days later I have the flu, body aches, maybe a fever one night, felt terrible fatigue, Diarrhea, the main symptoms lasted for 24 hours but felt fatigue for about a week.  I noticed no sores on my penis or around the area.  I did have some itching but i dont know if it was my mind or I had shaved there a week ago and it was growing back.  Anyway I read herpes could cause the flu,  and I will get tested at 12 weeks but what ares my chances of catching the herpes virus and causing the flu since I had hsv 1 probably.  Since I have the virus already would my body get flu Like symptoms without sores.    Also, I think my penis is a little read around the head but could that be the yeast infection thing.  Thanks for your help and information.

1.  No, it isn't
2.  Usually, if people have itching with outbreaks, sores show up a couple of days later.

It is very important the you get more testing to determine if you have HSV 1 or HSV 2.  A combined test really tells you nothing because you already know that you have cold sores (HSV 1).  The question is, do you have HSV 2?  Only a type specific antibody test can tell you that information at this point, unless you have more penis sores and they get tested and are positive.  I know your doctor swabbed the lesions and they were negative, but sometimes there are are false negatives on swab tests.

Is there a  reason that you haven't done the further testing required?
