Question about Test Result

I have several questions that are related to my test result. As background, my wife was having vaginal pain and went in to see her NP. Her NP did an exam and thought it might have been the early stage of a herpes outbreak though she said it did not look like what you would traditionally associate with herpes. She had a culture test done, which came back negative. Her NP still recommended we both get tests done. I did get a blood test done and a physical examination (no visible symptoms according to my doctor). My doctor said the test came back mildly positive, 1.5, which she said could be a false positive. She said research suggests anything below 3.0 could be a false positive so she recommended that I get another test done in a couple of weeks. This leads to my series of questions that if anyone can answer would be of great service to me:

1. I had read that a false positive for HSV 2 is more likely when you are positive for HSV 1. I am not positive for HSV 1 so is it accurate that a false positive is more likely when the individual is positive for HSV 1, is there any way to quantify how much more positive?

2. Is there any correlation between your score (1.5) and the likelihood of an outbreak, i.e. am I less likely to have an outbreak if my score is 1.5 than if it is 5? Am I less likely to pass on to someone else?

3. Is there an correlation between how low my score is and when I contracted HSV 2? If it is 1.5 now, and I get tested again in a few weeks and my score is 4 does that suggest that it is likely that I contracted it recently?

4. If I am tested again, and my score is around 1.5 again, does that suggest that I am positive or does that still suggest that I am in an area that could be positive and could be a false positive?

5. Would a false positive be less likely if, though I did not have any blisters, I felt other symptoms (fatigue, sore throat)?

Thank you to anyone with feedback.

Grace,

Thank you for the response. My wife has not yet had the blood test done. She plans to have it done soon.

was your wife negative too on her blood test?

odds are you don't have hsv2. if your wife tested negative, up to you if you even want to retest. if you just need the peace of mind, as long as it's been 4 months since you last had sex with anyone other than your wife, you need to get the herpes WB done or even a herpes inhibition assay would be helpful if your provider uses quest labs.
