Question re Acyclovir and Constant Out Breaks

HI Grace. Maybe you can help me with this one. I've been on suppressive therapy, 400mg of acyclovir 2x daily, for about six months. In late January I started having an OB so I upped my meds to 800mg 3x daily for two days. The symptoms cleared up just fine so I went back to my usual dose. A few days later I started to feel another OB coming on so I upped the dose again. When that subsided, I went back to my usual dose. Then, I'll be damned if I didn't start to feel another OB coming on a few days later. This has been an on going cycle ever since. The symptoms never really progress past the prodrome phase as the extra doses of acyclovir seem to abort the OB quickly, but I'm concerned that maybe I'm developing a tolerance to the drug. Or, maybe I'm just constantly shedding! Also, I'm worried about the side effects of taking the higher doses somewhat regularly. What are your thoughts?

yes that's an ok dose to take and if it works better, all the better.

make sure you are avoiding lip products that "plump", have menthol, cinnamon and other ingredients in them.   maybe try keep to just 1 for the next month or two so you aren't further complicating things.

I haven't been sick at all. Not even a cold. Been around a lot of sick people, too!

Not so much on the acidic foods...maybe some oj every now again. I have changed my moisturizer recently, and I'm often trying out new lip balms and lipstick. Are you thinking allergic reaction? Also, I have been under a bit of stress. Probably haven't been eating super great.

Just on a side note, with some recent experimentation I find that two 400 mg of Acyclovir twice daily seems to do the trick as far a suppression. Do you think its okay for me to take that much daily?

Hi Grace. I should have mentioned that I have oral hsv1. 99.9% sure I'm having classic cold sore prodrome symptoms.
