Hi, I had an Ig G test for HSV 2 and came back at 1.06.

Last time I had sex was one year ago.

Should I consider this result low?

reference was below 0.9 negative, 0.91 to 1 equivocal, above 1 positive

the igm herpes blood test isn't a good test and shouldn't be drawn on adults.

How long before you had your igg blood test done did you last have sex?

Thank you so much Grace, we are so blssed here to have you who is so kind so share with us so much precious information... We get more information from you than doctors.. I have spend over thousand of dollars on such issue but no one really can give me an proper answer . Yesterday , based on my swab report, the second doc that I visited found out that my discharge is actually due to some minor bacteria infection and there was no grow of pathogenic bacteria after 48 hours of incubation..She gave me 3 days of dalacin vaginal ovule for treatment. Anyway , I am really appreciate your replies and your patience toward me.. I hope that I really have no HSV and I think I ll test it again in another half of year for a peace of mind.:)..
thanks again!!!

You can't diagnose hsv2 from an igm.  they are falsely positive for many reasons.

thank you so much for your reply.. yes, I am not from US and thats why I am really confuse regarding my test result since the previous doc said that I have HSV-2 based on the IgM result  but then I went to another doc and after she examinated me, she said no way it look like I have herpes and also my bf 's blood test came out both negative on IgG and IgM. Now I am only hope that my second test is the right one and I really free from HSV-2 . Just wondering what caused my 1st IgM blood test became possitive???? could it be something else or I should just forget about it and get over it?

The test you are being tested with this time is not one with which I'm familar. I'm guessing you aren't in the US?

Sorry but there's nothing else I can do to help you at this point.

well.. my second blood test result is back today after around 3 weeks from the last time I had sex. I went to another doc. The result is negative and doc said I have no herpes. I only did HSV-S-lgG as doc said there is no need again for IgM .. The result as below:

                                                                  Ref.Range

HSV-2-IgG Negative 5.4EU/ml                      10.9         Positive

Doc said it negative and she did not see any sysptom of herpes on me and doesnt understand why the previous doc gave the those medications for herpes. Well.. but now I am kind of wondering... why my 1st blood test result came out positive for IgM??? what is the result indicate??? Since my bf doeasnt have herpes and doc said I am safe as well.. then what are the possible factors that gave a possitive result on my IgM ??? Is anyone here would give me any answer?? I am pretty confuse and do I need to find out the reason why caused my IgM became positive or it was really just a mistake that done by the Lab???? any advise??? I really appreciate if anyone would answer me on this. thanks!!!!!

To Grace:

Thank you so much Grace..I know I sound annoying now. But now my bf is kind of suspecting than I have someone else besides him.. How am I going to prove I don't?And if I go to do another blood test now.. I might worry the result might came out the same as I still suffering those irritation. What are other causes that might cause my IgM result became positive?? What should I do next now to cure my irritaion?? Last month I have done my pap smear, blood and urine test and all the report shown that I am free from diabetes, HPV, HIV , urine infection..I am concern because I dont know what kind of infection that I am having now that affecting my IgM result and mostly my health.. I really tired of my situation right now... any help?

once again, the igm herpes test is a bad test and you should be completely disregarding its results.  Neither you nor your bf have hsv2.  stop worrying :)

ok,, this is making me confuse now... My bf result is back today, he has both negative on HSV-2-lgG and HSV-2-lgM. The doctor told him that he is free from herpes and no need to do another test again. But how about me?? How come my result was positive for HSV-2- lgM?? I did not have sex fpr the past 3 years and my current bf is my only sex partner. What does my positive mean?? Besides sex, what else are the possibilities that I can get HSV-2- from??My obg doctor gave me a whole lot of medications for herpes and it has beeen almost 2 and a half week since I noticed my irritation. But those medicines do not seem working on me at all... Can someone here please give me some explaination regarding my situation? What can I now to prove that my test was a fault positive and I really did not cheat on my bf...:(

Once again, thank you so much for your useful reply. yes, I have asked my bf to do the blood test and we are waiting for the result. He admited that he has some girl friends before me but he said he has never experience any outbreak symptoms before.Sometime I do suffer from virginal infestion like yeast infectiona and etc and I have also saw those small red tiny bumps before on the same area of my virginal but this time is kind of more than before .But I only suffer from some white discharge ( discharge has no stinky smell) and do not feel any burning or fever or other type of sysmptoms that people have meantioned in the internet. And those small bumps never broken or spread out to other part of my viginal. I only have 1 relationships before and I ended my 1st relationship 3 years ago and did not have sex since then until I met my current bf so I dont think there is any possibility that I got the herpes from my ex bf. Now I am just so upset regarding my situation and hopefully it was only a wrong positive test result. Anyway, we will wait until his result out by next couple of days and see what is actually going on. Thanks again! Its very kind of you that willing to spend your precious time to reply me.

if you have a regular partner they should get a blood test done too to see what their status is. Otherwise wait 4 months and then repeat your blood test.  Should you get a return of symptoms before then, see your doctor within 24-48 hours of their appearance for a lesion culture and typing.

Thank you so much for the reply, I am new here and still trying to figure out about how to post and etc.. Regarding my blood test report, I would like to know what are the chances that I already infected by genital herpes??? I am given famciclovir for the herpes but also cefixime. I am wondering what if those symptoms go away is not because of I have taken famciclovir but maybe because of cefixime. Any advice regarding when should I get another test again? Or my blood test is already shown that I already have genital herpes. I am very worry about my situation and hopefully can get some better information and clearer picture about my blood test report.

p.s. ( sorry about my broken english as I am not english educated)

The igm is not a good test and shouldn't be done.

I just get back my blood test report from my OBG doctor. The test only took 2 days and as below:

HSV-2-lgG      0.158 Negative     Grey Zone ( 0.209-0.284)
                                                Negative  Grey Zone

HSV-2-lgM      0.568 Positive      Grey Zone ( 0.349-0.427))
                                                Negative  Grey Zone

The doctor refused to do another test for me and pretty sure that I have genital herpes infection and told me that I get infected just recently. I am quite confuse because I did not experience outbreak symptoms like what I have read from the internet besides having some very very tiny bumps appear in my viginal that do not even cause any pain to me during the past 10 days. Those small red bumps have not developing  into painful blisters and have not yet broken after more than 10 days from the 1st day I discovered them. Besides, I always suffering from some virginal infection due to over taking medication for my sinus problem... I am now really confuse and worry about the result that doctor have told me.Kindly give me some advice or useful answers..Is there any chance that my report shows a false positve? Thanks!

No, its clearly negative, and the IgM should never be used for a diagnosis anyway.
