Help needed with test results PLEASE.

Background - Only sexual relationships since last complete STD testing in May 09 - All Negative. Last relationship ended 01/29/10 - New one started 2/20 - 2 days later, had yeast infection. Over the counter meds did not help - went to doc on 02/26/10 - diagnostic bad yeast infection. Decided while there - have all STD test run again. Doc called on 03/03/10 with results - "It's Bad, Very Bad. You have Herpes - HSV2 - no cure. Take Valtrex 500mg twice a day 14 Days. See me in 3 months - Any questions". All this time, no other symptom other then the yeast infection & feeling run down - very stressed after results. Began the Valtrex on 3/3 - felt tingling and some tenderness but that is all - 18 Days & no sores have appeared

Test results:
HSV 2 IGG Herpeselect AB  = 0.23  Ref Range - 0 - 0.89
HSV IgM AB Screen = Detected (A)
HSV IgM AB TITTER = 1:80 (H)  Ref Range <1:10
HSV 1 IGG Herpeselect AB = 0.55  Ref Range - 0 - 0.89

From what I have researched - these are negative results (been told to disregard IgM).  Am I correct in my assumption?  or do I have to wait 3 months to take another test?  If so, any test that I could do sooner?

if your partner's hsv2 igg is negative then no reason for any further testing and you were clearly misdiagnosed by someone who clearly needs further education on herpes testing.  For under $3 they can purchase the herpes testing toolkit from ashastd.org in their book store.  makes a great gift as far as I"m concerned :)    Might also want to point out that diagnosing only on igm for herpes only is grounds for malpractice too.

If your partner tests + for hsv2 then repeat your igg blood test in 3 months.

A good site for your son to learn more about std's is www.iwannaknow.org. it's also run by ashastd but it's aimed at teens and easy for them to understand :)  He's getting to the age where he needs to learn these things too.  It's a good site for him and his friends.

Thank you for the responses.

No lesion present - just the blood results.
My current partner just returned from Iraq and THOUGHT he had been tested for all STD's upon returning - come to find out it was only for HIV.  He is currently getting tested for Herpes, etc.  I have scheduled an appointment with another doctor to get confirmation for myself.  My fingers are crossed that all will be OK for both of us.

This whole experience has been an eye-opener for me and everyone around me - especially my 17 yr old son.  In my opinion, you can never be TOO CAREFUL!

Hope many more people get better informed (including Doctors) regarding this STD that has been kept "in the closet".  Though not life threatening - it is life altering.

God Bless!

I had a false positive once.  I freaked out for three months before getting retested.  My first test came back as IgG at 1.13, called positive because over 1.10 is considered positive.  Then, after consulting this site, I decided to get retested three months later.  Results came back as 0.84 - negative.  My doctor has now decided to look closer at IgG levels in case of false positives.

so you didn't have any lesion cultures done of your symptoms that came back as hsv2+, just these blood test results?

I think your provider erred greatly and told you you had herpes based on the igm testing which is poor medicine for herpes testing :(

I recommend you get your current partner tested for herpes and see what their status is. igg type specific testing on.ly.
