Reiter's Syndrome???

Terri Warren,

I have been seeing this girl for a couple months.  We had protected sex over the past month and then got tested.  I was positive type one and negative all others..  Her results are pending (wednesday). We had sex last weekend and I penetrated unprotected for about 5-10 seconds.  I went to the bathroom and washed off my penis with water and hand soap then rubbing alcohol.  Took 1000mg of Famvir.  Then I dried up and wore a condom.  The next morning I took another 1000mg of Famvir.  4 days later I had pain in my urethra and testicles.  Went to the ER and they gave me a shot in the rear and 4 pills and doxycyline hyclate.  ER did UA and a q-tip swab, waiting on results.  I remained in pain so last night, 2 days later, I went back and they did this all again.  I have no sores.  Tthe tip of my penis where the urethra starts is tender and I have burning feeling in my urethra and tenderness in my scrotum (shocking pain that runs to my back) and pain in my testicles.  The ER said I might have epididymitis and urethritis.  I hope it's not Herpes.

So I called my Uncle (ER Dr). He felt 5 years ago that these chronic issues had to be something else other than type 1. In 2008 I went to a rheumatology doctor who told me I was fine and that herpes can cause all these issues.

Over the past few years I have had urethritis, lower back pain (especially now), geographic tongue, hip joint pain, achilles tendon pain, spine pain, eye problems (burning eyelids and waking up with conjunctivitis), even the sore I had on the initial OB of type 1, 5 years ago, at the pubic hair region at the base of my penis didn't hurt at all.

In 2008 you said Reiter's Syndrome.  My Uncle thinks you might be onto something.  I have another visit to Rheumatology.  I also want a Western Blot.  If my gf has type 2 I will know why I'm in pain huh?

Can herpes cause the symptoms I am showing now?
Lower Back pain
Testicular pain, both
scrotum pain
headache
urethritis
epididymis pain

I know you are concerned, but I don't think posting a blog about your symptoms is going to be helpful here.  Also, you are posting multiple copies of the same post here.  I think you need to go only by the antibody test results to determine your HSV 2 status.  I seriously doubt, again, that this is due to HSV 1.

I woke up with leg pains, urethritis, shocking pain in my groin area and a headache.  This has been almost a week now.  I'm so confused.

My urethral pain/itching increased all day. I started having painful shocking in my genital region.  Like stop me moving shocks. I decided to just see a urologist.  When I pull my urethra open there is a clear sticky fluid that slows the skin from coming apart inside my urethra. Urologist couldn't find anything out of the norm and just noted tenderness in my testicle and said lets wait and see why this is occuring.  Didn't rule out herpes.  Later on shocking started.

I seriously doubt that all of this is HSV 1, and again, I really don't think at all that this is HSV 2.

Yes they treated me based on my swollen epididymis and left testicle pain.  They said even 15 seconds of unprotected sex could cause me to have STDs.  They shot me full of meds twice.  So much so I have diarrhea.

My uncle just spoke to me and said that was over kill.  Told me to take Advil and relax.  I told him my penis head and urethra are burning.  He said cortisone-10 should help.

Thanks and I'm glad you remember me.  I really enjoyed visiting your clinic.  Great place.

I pray this isn't anything more.  All my struggles with type 1, not sure I can deal with type 2.

I do remember talking to you in the past.  I still don't think you have HSV 2.  Even if she tested positive for HSV 2, it doesn't mean you have it, right?  Your symptoms are so generalized!  I wouldn't be at all surprised is you have urethral symptoms because you washed you penis in alcohol and soap.  If that gets inside, it can be very irritating!   Do I understand correctly that you were treated based on your report of symptoms rather than any actual diagnosis?

Well now my penis head has a burning sensation.  I wonder if this is my existing type 1 starting up due to something else or a new type 2 causing all this.  No OB so far but the same prodrome feelings I have had for years, but much more intense than I remember are occurring.  I feel like I so let myself down with that 10 second unprotected sex.  so dumb.

I read the herpes handbook cover to cover.  Now I am more nervous than ever!  I have had a headache on top of my head all week that won't go away (same as my first OB) and have felt run down, and the handbook says a person with type 1 may not have sores and such when given type 2.  So all this internal pain and shocking could be type 2. I'm just lost.  ER Dr said herpes doesn't cause these symptoms, but the stuff they gave me hasn't worked in 3 days time.  Still in pain.

I have only been with 2 people in 5 years and I picked the one with hsv 2?  I was smart the first time I started dating and we both got tested prior to sex.

That's my luck here I decide to take a chance for 5-10 seconds and I am possibly infected.
I guess I am a little more nervous because she didn't want to get tested.  My first gf was like heck yes!  This one is like why? I found that odd. She said she was clean and kinda got upset I'd ask her to test. I don't think she has ever been screened.  This week will be interesting if she is positive type 2.  I will surely be stressed more than now.
