2x IgG negative and 1x IgM positive

My situation - 47yr old Male

In May I had what looked like it could be a herpes outbreak, one small sore on my glans.  It popped up after a weekend of long sex sessions with my partner (I have a hard time cumming).  This was about 3 weeks after unprotected oral sex with someone else.   I had an IgG test which was negative.   The 1st week of December I had another outbreak, in exactly the same spot, but worse, a cluster of about 6 sores (don't look like the pictures online, no white puss or oozing, but they do scab over).  Had an IgG and IgM test, IgG came back (-), IgM (+), that is 2 (-) IgG tests and 1 (+) IgM.  Other posts say to ignore IgM tests but the outbreaks look suspiciously like Herpes.   The second outbreak was under the same conditions, lots of sex over 2 days, wake up Sunday morning with a red stripe from the urethra down to the left to the edge of the glans with some sores, basically right where my right hand puts pressure when I masturbate, which I was doing lots of too (to try to cum).

I have had shingles in the past, several outbreaks in my 20's.   If I do have it I suspect I have had it for awhile since I have had tingling/pain in that area previously but never really connected it to anything.  When younger I also had sex to the point of getting a sore in that area from "abrasion".   I have pretty much resigned myself to the fact that I have herpes but if there is another possibility I would love to hear it.

Hmmm....   So 2 IgGs were negative, one within about 4 weeks of possible contact, the other 8 weeks later, but the IgM was low positive.  And IgM is supposed to be bogus.

sorry I was confused and thought the oral sex was 3 weeks prior to your testing. sorry about that confusion!

no shingles won't cause the test to be falsely negative. My concern would be that those weren't really shingles but hsv2 and you just aren't having it reflected on your blood test. the only way to confirm that would be if you got a return of symptoms to have cultured to see if herpes is detected.  how often did your shingles rash reoccur?

Shingles were visually confirmed and were on my lower back, on the left, it was a bad case and very clearly shingles.  I was wondering it could skew the test.

Too soon?   Suspected contact was in May of this year, almost 8 months ago.

shingles rarely reoccurs especially in your 20's. did you have laboratory confirmation of shingles at that time or just visual diagnosis of shingles? where were your shingles ob's at at that time?

If you had had herpes prior to this, it most likely would've shown up on your igg testing and it isn't.

at this point, blood testing is too soon for you. should you get a return of genital symptoms, be seen within 48 hours of their appearance for a proper exam. If they suspect herpes, they can do a lesion culture and typing. otherwise you can wait and repeat your igg blood testing 3-4 months after the last time you had sex to see what it shows.
