Risk of Herpes?

I had drunk sex with a prostitute just under 8 weeks ago.  I'm married, very worried and guilty.  Gave cunnilingus(unprotected). Received oral sex(protected) had protected straight sex.

- Doctor prescribed Canesten HC for groin fungal infection. After 6 weeks it's better than it was, but not gone.  A doctor in a walk-in medical centre said to switch to Daktacort, which I will do.

- Pubic region seems itchy/prickly over last few weeks.  I put the Canesten over the pubic area ocassionally.  In week 6, 3 red spots & 2 ***** spots appeared.  The red spots weren't in the same area.  They looked like bites, but itched less once broken out.  The ***** spots were up by my belt buckle.  The med centre doc said most likely a bacterial infection on the skin, and gave anti-baterial steriod cream. I'm clear of crabs.  The spots went in 4 days with cream. I sometimes think I still feel an itch/tingle but maybe concentrating too much.

- My wife and I only had sex once (in week 2).  But she's manually played with me.  The back of her hand rubbed in my pubic area.  She has very itchy red bumps on the knuckles on the backs of her hands - 3 on the 2nd knuckle of her right hand and 1 on the left.  Scared this is a herpetic whitlow from me.  Her skin is dry (weather's cold).  The Med Centre doctor hasn't seen her, but says he's sure this is not herpes, as Herpes doesn't live on the hands in this way.  He says if anything has transferred from me, it's likely to be a bacterial infection.  Herpes would be blisered and sore rather than itchy.  I'm very very worried, as we have a 12-month boy and and very scared we might transfer herpes to him.

Tested -ve for gonorrhoea and clamidia at the end of Week 1 at a GUM clinic.  -VE for gonorrhoea, clamidia, syphilis, HIV, Hep B, mycoplasms, ureaplasms and Herpes in week 6 at Med Centre. The med centre doc says he's very confident in the results.  He says he's very sure I haven't transferred herpes to my wife.  Is he right?

This REALLY doesn't sound like herpes to me either.  Your experience, though not terrific for your situation, was somewhat carefully done with condoms for intercourse and oral sex, good decision.  I would recommend repeating the herpes antibody test in about 4 months from the exposure, but the results at 6 weeks are about 70% accurate compared to the final test results, so that's very good.

I agree that there is not a concern of infected your child and I doubt that the things on your wife's hands are herpes whitlow, they just don't sound like that.

Many thanks Terri, that's really useful.  Believe me, no-one's giving me a harder time about my stupidity given my "situation".  It's not characteristic, and it's turned an idyllic life upside down for the last 8 weeks.

I'll repeat the test after 4 months as you advise.

I'll also try to find what these spots are, as a couple more came up today - one high in my pubic area and one on my stomach.  They seem to be most itchy before they break out.  Also an angry-looking, but completely painless patch of scaly, red skin appeared today half way down my left thigh (level with the bottom of my pocket lining).  Maybe this is one for a dermatogoloy forum.  Many thanks for your help, it's much appreciated.
