SHOULD I STOP TREATMENT?

I've just been diagnosed with hsv2 and I am taking acyclovir.....I'm undecided if I should continue taking it daily or wait and see if I am prone type to get recurrences often.  Ive heard some people get it so mild they dont take daily meds.  Since I had it and didnt know does that mean I may not have many recurrences?

your body will not become dependent on acyclovir. You need to take the correct doses in order for it to work.  It works by disrupting the viral replication process so that the virus can't continue to work right during that recurrence.  It has no other effect on the virus other than when it's active.

you  need to be seen to have your other rashes looked at because they aren't due to your herpes.

I have not finished it....once the rash went away i started taking it 2 pills twice a day because i dont want my body to become dependent on it. I dont want to have to take it on a daily basis...hope I will be able to take it only when an outbreak occurs. Is that ok? The sores that I had went away fairly quickly.  Another thing I meant to ask you is can herpes cause body rashes that dont break out into blisters? I have a rash on the back of my leg and one on my forearm that dont seem to go away.

it's most helpful when you just keep adding new comments and questions in your original post instead of making new posts each time. this is covered in our read before posting post on this forum.

the number of recurrences you get is meaningless as far as the decision of how to treat your herpes. At this point waiting for your partner's test results to come back is also helpful to see if you need to be thinking of ways to reduce transmission to him or not. Once you have his results, you can discuss together what precautions to take from this point forward.

did you finish your full 7 days of acyclovir for your current ob?

Hi. I have never taken any meds. I had 1 initial outbreak 7 years ago and never had anything ever again. I only had a tiny blister down there. I have never had any tingling as if it were coming back. I guess I am a lucky one. I dont plan on taking meds.
