Small red bumb on inner thigh

Hello,  I have a small rd bump on my inner thigh which is slightly painful and a little red around it. If i try to squeeze it its a bit hard to the touch, there is no head or pus leaking out.  It is a bit uncomfortable.  I have been with girlfriend for 8 months now and she has no issues.  I occasionally get ingrown hairs on my thighs, just not in that spot.  I also went to doctor and got tested for all std's and only came back positive for a past exposure to HSV1, negative for HSV2 and all other std's.  Ive also had some discomfort recently in my entire groin area, more like a burning and itching sensation, no lesions or bumps of any sort there though.  I treated it with otc antifungal (lotramin), that seemed to provide relief but now less than a week later it is back again.  I also wanted to mention that the bump on my thigh started out as just a bump, no pain then got irritated and inflamed seemingly.  It has been ther efor 5 days now and has looked and felt the same. Ive been putting some neosporin on it and in the a.m. it seems better then goes back to being painful and red again.  What could this be?  A fungal infection that wont go away?  It is bothering me quite a bit and making me stressed out which is making me feel like im sick. Please help. Thank you!

Most everyone that we exam has a bump or two in groin area, including thighs.  This bump does not concern me, particularly in light of your negative HSV 2 test.  If you keep picking at it, it is going to continue to stay irritated.  It could easily be an ingrown hair or folliculitis.  And groin fungal infections often take two-three weeks to go away with twice a day treatment.

If the bump continues to be difficult, you may wish to have a provider look at it and culture it for bacterial infections that might be difficult or need an antibiotic cream
