Thank god for you and this web site Grace you & the team have helped so many!!!! I will keep you posted .. :)
you need to wait at least 3 months post encounter for herpes igg blood testing to be accurate. no more acyclovir in the meantime. should you have any symptoms either orally or genitally before it's time for proper testing, be seen promptly for an exam and if they feel anything looks like herpes, a lesion culture and typing should be done.
the odds that you'd contract herpes from a one night encounter are very low.
My Dr called on Friday 2/15 she explained that the postive test results given to me over the ph were incomplete and she was waiting for the lab to give the igm/igg results.
Im having much doubt about my Drs knowledge in the area of HSV. The Dr stated if the igm/igg test isnt back on the appt. date of the 20th she will have me do another blood test. Im paying out of pocket for the test as well as Dr visits.....I was exposed to HSV 2 on Jan 26th/13 I self medicated on the 28th w/acyclovir for 10 days, now Im aware that the meds may have prevented my first outbreak I still developed what looks like fever blisters on the inside of my top lip & my lft check- total of three inside my mouth. Nothing on the genitalia. Everything I read states extreme pain w/outbreaks.
QUESTIONS;
1- Is it possible the meds also masked the pain?
2- How may days after exposer should I test?
3- I want to be retested for both HSV 1&2 , What blood test should I request?
it can if started early enough.
many providers aren't properly educated about herpes blood testing and draw the wrong blood tests or draw them too early :(
Does acyclovir prevent the INITIAL HSV 1 & 2 outbreak from occurring??
Thank you Grace..I have a a few more questions; I was on the 9th day of acyclovir when I did the blood test for HSV 1 & 2. Would that effect the result? Im confused that the test came back positive instead of false positive or negative? I told the nurse about my exposer date, why would they send me to the lab for a herpes blood test if it was to early ...
your self treatment hasn't been in your best interest :( you also don't need a 10 day course of antivirals at this point either.
thanks to hipaa laws, you are allowed to have the results of any testing you have done if you ask for it. I'd ask them to print you out a copy of your test results for you to pick up so you can post the results here for me to help you with. Your testing you had done was too early to accurately reflect a newly acquired infection so we need to get a better idea of what testing was done and what the actual results were before I can comment more on this.
you also should go and be seen for your current symptoms. they need to look internally to see what is going on as well as check you for yeast and bacterial infections vaginally. since you are taking acyclovir again, you won't be able to get an accurate lesion culture if they do see herpes lesions :(
