Testing Confusion

I have an appt Tuesday. I am almost 2 years post exposure. I called and made appt with a random Dr. (have new insurance). I asked to be transferred to the lab to see about what test they use in HSV testing (blood). The lady there said they do IgM, combined IgG or IgG type specific and the blood draw is sent to a lab in Salt Lake City Utah. I want to lay my herpes crisis to rest once and for all. I did test WAY back when, at 9 weeks and was NEG but that which they did IgM and I BELIEVE combined IgG (NEG results on all). Their were no values to speak of according to the lab tech 2 years ago. So, tuesday when I go in I would like to sound educated.

1. What test to DEMAND?
2. Should I ask if it herpselect , Elisa? or what?
3. Once I get the results IF they say NEG do I believe them or do ask for values? I see people posting 5.89 this and .90

I just want this laid to rest. I have addresssed my mental issues from past postings but I still get silly symptoms which may or may not be herpes related. I have just been living my life assuming I am HSV2 positive although I have never had any sores to culture or "classic" outbreak. Just symptoms that I keep thinking are sex related and started 2-3 days after an unprotected event. Thanks in advance for your help.

ELISA is a technique not a brand of test. Herpeselect is an ELISA test for example.

So I called the lab one more time and they use ARUP out of Salt Lake City and per their website it seems they offer the ELISA....is this going to be a good enough test? Otherwise I will have to go out of network and self pay and the closest Herpeselect site is about 2 hours away. So Question is should I just do the ELISA and trust the results or travel and get the HERSELECT?

Yes that's straightforward enough. You want the IgG testing that is type specific for HSV1 and HSV2. You'd prefer Herpeselect and state that you will return or appreciate an email with the separate values for the two tests with the reference ranges.

No other testing is appropriate or conclusive.
