And what is the rate of transmission without suppresive therapy both with and without a condom?

I am going to assume by your name that you are female.  If you aren't, let us know and I can give you stats for male to female transmission.

For hsv2, assuming a long term monogamous relationship, the rates of transmission for the course of a year are:

*  just avoiding sex during an outbreak - 4%

*  using suppressive therapy OR condoms every time - 2%

*  using suppressive therapy AND condoms every time - 1%

Remember that these are odds, and your mileage may vary.

Thank you Aj,

I am an infected female so thank you but I would also be interested in the male to female transmission if it is different as I do have male friends who have the virus as well.  Also would you state your source?  That would be helpful to me as well.

Again thank you very much for your response!
