Transmission Time for Cold Sore

Hello -

I currently have a cold sore and I'm on my 5th day, it's been healing after I've taken Valtrex to speed along the process but I still have a small scab. I have my anniversary date with my boyfriend on Saturday and it will probably end with us engaging in sexual activity. If I perform oral sex on him, would I transmit the HSV-1 virus to him through my cold sore? Or will it already be passed the transmission period?  .

Thank you.

Ok cool. Looks like you are in the clear then. I was just on the side of caution but if your doctor says ok you are probably fine.

Thanks for the quick response Jerry! I went to the doctor and showed her my cold sore. She mentioned that because it's past the scanning stage and I've been taking Valtrex, it's no longer contagious.

No, you will still have a higher probability to spread until the scab is completely gone, even a couple of days or so afterword. My advice would be to forgo kissing (I know it's hard being your anniversary and all) and oral. (Though if you do use a condom.)
