Valtrex Worth it??

Hey Guys-
So i have Genital Herpes :-( I'm currently in mist of my second outbreak WHICH HURTS!!! I have more lesions than my first outbreak and really need to figure out if there is any relief during this time. Is Valtrex worth going on? I am still under my parents insurance and I'm DEF not ready for them to find out. I haven't even told ANY of my friends. I know that Valtrex is expensive and  I was wondering if any of you take it, and if so how much difference does it make? I will go on it if it makes a world of differences, but if not, probably will just wait till i have my own insurance in a few years. Thanks

acyclovir is prescription.

The herpes handbook at www.westoverheights.com is a terrific resource if you've never read it yet.

It was about 2-3 weeks after having unprotected sex with a guy that I had my first symptoms. It first appeared as blister like bumps on my upper inner thigh, then soon after I developed bumps and small leisions around my vajay-jay. Grace, where can I get this acyclovir??? Is it a topical ointment or a pill I would take regularly?? Or just during an outbreak??

oh and I forgot - when it comes to recurrences - the sooner you start the antivirals the better. Don't wait until it's a full blown ob - start it at the first sign of a possible ob.  You can even often head off a full blown ob if you can get them started early on.

episodic therapy helps speed the healing of ob's by 2 days on average.  It also helps you have less pain faster.

If you can't afford valtrex - use acyclovir instead - it's cheaper.

Just out of curiosity, how long after having sex did your first outbreak occur?  I'm worried I may have herpes too =(.

If I were in your place, I would just tell my parents.  They're probably going to find out eventually anyway and they can help you out.
