Valtrex

I have been on valtrex for the past 4 months (1 a day) if the symptoms I am having have not gone away for a period of 2 years ( symptoms are there for a week then subside for 2 - 3 days then come back ) this has been like clockwork for the past 2 years.  Symptoms started after receiving unprotected oral sex which include stinging at the opening of my penis, tingeling sensation- redness and inflamation, and pain at the tip- no burning during urination ever- and never any open sores- at times it does look like there is a TINY dark red circular spot that appears but then goes away however the redness/ irritaion is constant.  I was swabbed and all tests came back negative however I did test positive for hsv 1 via blood work-  my question is if this were an oral herpes outbreak genitally would being on valtrex every day for 4 months have made these symptoms subside ???  Is the pain people talk about with a herpes outbreak the actual open sores that are painful or is it a generalized pain ?  The pain I am experiencing is like someone has the tip of my penis in a vice...  I am going out of my mind becuase it literally has been 2 years of on and off pain and this irritation/ stinging/ tingling sensation... ejaculation makes the redness/ stinging worse- any advice would greaty be appreciated...I can not get the thought of herpes out of my head.

Hsv1 genitally typically doesn't reactivate very often. it's not likely to be the source of these continued issues.  It's time to move past herpes as the cause of any of this at this point.

Returning to the urologist is the best next step. Also try keeping a diary of your symptoms too for instance does the pain seen to be worse in the morning or at night?  Does sitting a lot make it better or worse?  If you are up and about and busy all day do you still notice it ?  Does drinking caffeine or spicey foods make it worse? etc

OH another question- can you have herpes internally- like maybe affecting your prostate or bladder?

Thanks once again for your thoughts... At times I think well this can't be herpes because of the duration and the frequency of the symptoms and the time frame it goes away- every Dr I have been too seems to keep telling me that it is all in my head however it most certainly is not- as I sit here and type this response I am experiencing a sharp shooting pain that radiates to the tip of my penis and the redness is extreme- but yet this morning when I woke up and took the morning pee- the redness was there but very mild.  I am also experiencing major groin itching- feels like it's an internal itch just below the pubic line- I am truely going mad.  I will make yet ANOTHER urologist apt- should I seek the opinion of another type of Dr? HEEELP..

this is very unlikely to be hsv1 genitally causing all these issues.  No reason to continue taking the valtrex either.

I have never heard of Herpes being ongoing for 2 years I think you should go back to your Doctor about this,if the lesions were swabbed and tested negative for both HSV1 and 2 then this is not genital Herpes .... the blood work would suggest you have HSV1 orally.
The description of symptoms you give are not typical of Herpes if it were then Valtrex would certainly have alleviated most of your symptoms and outbreaks it is highly unlikely that Herpes would show up every week I don't think Herpes is the issue here so it would be advisable to see your doctor and explain everything to him asap Valtrex will not help clear this up you need different medication.
You really should go asap I can't imagine why you've suffered this so long it must be awful for you.
