transmission from straw

Hi, My husband gets cold sores. I have never had one but I know I could still carry the virus. I was drinking from a straw and then my elbow bumped it. Any chance of getting the virus on my arm from this? I don't believe I have any open skin on my elbow but I went ahead and used purell on it. After, I realized that the hand i used to rub purell on my elbow had a small cut. Any chance of whitlow from this?

Even if you have genital hsv or oral hsv. You won't spread it to your hands. No need to wash when you touch your lips. The body builds antibodies that prevent this from happening.

would being on valtrex for hsv2 prevent from building antibodies for hsv1? I thought I'd heard from Terri Warren that it could effect it.also couldn't you spread it through broken skin on your hands by autoinnoculation?

what about if my fingers brush my lips? any chance of whitlow if there's no sore present? should I wash my hands anytime they touch my mouth or just if there is a sore present. I'm concerned if I do carry the virus I've not built up an immunity for it since I'm on valtrex for my genital herpes.

Your risk is 100% zero. You can not get hsv that way. No need for concern.
