risk of infection during recurrence

hello.  i (female) have genital herpes and this is not my first outbreak. i didn't realize i was having an outbreak when i had vaginal intercourse until after the fact. we had sex more than once in a 24 hour period of time and i only have 1 blister, which i believe had already burst prior to contact (i thought it was an ingrown hair). i have been looking online for statistics, but i can't find anything with regards to the percentage of risk of having infected my male partner. i realize that one cannot say for sure, but a ballpark figure would be helpful.  oh and we did not use a condom (we are in a monogamous relationship) and i am not on medication (no insurance).  thank you.

yes i know that grace, thank you.  i have not been to this site before and consequently have not posted anything  before the other day - i saw that i could post to the general board so i did, but then decided that i wanted a real medical opinion and posted a "paid" question.  i was then thanking mistakeguy for his input in the general forum.  pardon me if i'm not a "regular" on your forum and am fully aware of the etiquette.  you don't need to reply and i apologize for clogging your system.

thank you for your answer.  i'm positive now that i had an outbreak so i'm hoping you are correct with the assumption that a one time encounter is low, but i'm afraid that may not be the case.  we typically do avoid contact during an outbreak, i was just unaware.  it was a dumb mistake and i think this will be the longest 2 weeks of my life.  i'm hoping that as the days go by without him having symptoms, this is more promising.  thank you for the advice.

Risk from a one time encounter is low but given that you do have it and may have had an outbreak does complicate things.  I would say at this point have your partner go to his provider or an STD clinic 24-48 hours if he gets any symptoms.  Normally symptoms will show within 2-14 days but can take as long as 2-20 days.

If you will continue to have unprotected sex like this avoid it during outbreaks and you may want to see if you can get on antivirials and get the generic version which is a little cheaper.

Is your partner aware of your HSV status?
