Western Blot in New York

Hi,

I have NEVER had a herpes outbreak, but i am sexually active and figured i was overdue for STD testing in general.  I had a doctor run the appropriate tests, and got some surprising, unexpected news.  Free of any other STDs, but  my results for HSV1 and HSV2 were positive. (2.24 and 1.25 respectively). I did not get much advice or information from my doctor, so i turned to the Internet to find what i could.  As you can probably guess, my research has shown that i have what is considered a low positive result and would probably benefit from retesting with Western Blot.  Great!  I found the code for Quest Diagnostics (from this forum), brought it to my doctor and he wrote out an order and off i went to give some blood.

But i live in New York City.  This seems to be a problem.

Quest, while able to find the code in their computer, said they could not run the test in the state.  I called my doctor, giving him the number to directly call the UW laboratory.  He told me he called them, but the best they could do, since i live in New York State and they are not licensed to perform the test here, was give him the number for the NYS Board of Health (but he didn't really say why.)

Sooo... What now?  Do i resign myself to assuming that there is a good chance i have a false positive and try to move on?  Do i consider myself positive and move on?  Do i hop on a bus out of state (which seems like it would not be a fun vacation), or is there some way that i can get the Western Blot performed in New York (NYC preferably.)

I appreciate any advice you have, and thank you for answering questions on this forum.  You have already helped me before i even posted a word.

I do know how to do this, yes!  You need to contact Dr. Jeffrey Gilbert.  He does this all the time and can help you ever much with this procedure.  He is in New York City, and I'll bet you can find him with little trouble.  Tell him I said hi ;-)

Thank you so much!  I will let you (and the forum) how this pans out.  I obviously don't want to get my hopes up too high, but from what i read it is worth checking into, and hopefully i will turn out negative.
