What does herpetic whitlow first look like?

I have a small (maybe the length of my fingernail), half moon shaped white mark on the finger pad (tip) of my index finger. The mark is deep under the skin, with nothing bubbling up on the surface (yet). I have never had herpetic whitlow, but I have had several cold sores lately and am scared that this may be the start of one. My finger does not hurt or tingle though. Does this sound like it may be very early stages of whitlow? I know a million things could be causing this mark, but just wanted to see if whitlow was something I could rule out, or if I should be concerned about it....I do have a doctor's appointment soon to check on it and see why I have been getting so many cold sores recently, but that's not for another week. Thank you!

You can really rule whitlow out. They are very painful and once one blister surfaces and pops, youll have other small ones around it. Also if you have hsv1 oral and its an old infection from childhood, you would have adequate antibodies to help prevent it.
Also the skin on the fingers is very thick and thats why its rare to contract it.
